Question 1985 XJ6 Cruise Control Not Working

The cruise control does not engage.
I have checked the fuse.
Is there another place to check besides the fuse panel?

Thanks in advance

Good info here:

Cruise Control

Often the bellows leak around the edges...and can resealed to the end plates with silicone sealer.

How's the vacuum supply hose to the bellows?

Cheers

Thanks for the info.
I have not checked that.
Since it does not show that Cruise is on, I thought it might be electrical.

There isn't a 'cruise control on' warning lamp

As I've posted before, I have the same problem. I admit I haven't taken the bellows apart. I've been real busy last two weeks. But I have a question. When you say silicone do you mean the glue or are you referring to a lubricant? I can't remember ever seeing a silicone lubricant only a glue.

The silicone that I tried is a "caulk" which is what I believe the others were referring to.
I actually ordered a new bellows. Just hope I can figure out how to get it installed.

Thanks wildman. My thought was that the glue(caulk) would bake the bellow not move at all but that's why I asked. Thanks again.

The silicone is only used where the bellows touch the metal plate, at least that is the way I understand it.

Right, you just wanna seal the mating surface between the bellows and the two metal end plates.

Tip: before disassembly note the orientation of the end plates relative to each other

there are a number of switches and relays and parts that activate the Speed Control. not to mention the fuse,

the first is the on-off switch behind the shifter,

the second is the button on the end of the turn signal switch,

the third is the vacuum "rubber accordion" assembly in the engine compartment, which in itself is like three different components,

and there's other places which control the Speed Control:

1) roller switch in front of the shifter which only allows it to come on in the "D" (Drive) position of the shifter,

2) a black "logic box" located in the passenger side,

3) a brake pedal switch which turns it off if you apply the brakes,

otherwise it is a very simple system.
