Default Engine starter

On a 1985 XJ6 Series 3 Engine with EFI where does one spray ENGINE STARTER FLUID into, which port, plug or pipe is the one? Just want to make sure before I blow anything up

Hi adenshillito,

Sorry no one got back to you sooner on this one.

Off side (drivers side) front of engine.

There is a large air cleaner canister / cylindrical box which has a long 2 inch ish wide cone attached to it which protrudes through the body work next to the fan shroud and radiator.

The opening of this tube is the air induction for the engine and is where you want to point your can of starter.

Cheers,

Nigel

With the aircleaner OFF, a VERY SHORT SNIFF into each carby. Bloody dangerous that way in MY opinion, BBQ Jag is terrible tasting.

They can and will spit back with that stuff, and scare the pants (being polite coz its a public forum) off you, trust me.

Fit the aircleaner, without element if you like, and a quick SHORT SNIFF up the intake snorkel.

We will hear it across the ditch, HA.

No fear, just good old common sense, and Kiwi's have plenty of that, just like us.

Dont overspray it, just a short, sharp squirt. It does not take much of that stuff.

Does carby cleaner have a similar effect Grant? When I last cleaned them and put back on I missed some gunk ( being ****) so I sprayed the throat...when I started it...Bang Flash...wet myself. Or maybe it was too rich.

Yep.

The can says so on the label.

Great for BBQ Huntsman Spiders, oh boy.

Most anything like Carby clean, Brake Clean, etc is highly inflammable.

There is a "safer" way to prime this engine. Not that hard, either.

Remove the spark plugs and add a small amount of fresh gas/petrol.
replace the plugs quickly and crank.

It should fire.

Might work with the "ether", but, it evaporates quickly.

If the engine coughs, when you give the intake a squirt, and the fire comes out, keep cranking, it may draw it back in....

Easier on top side carb'd engines.
