Default Coupes at Auction

I've recently heard form more that one source that a Series 2 XJ coupe sold for $65,000. Does anyone have any info about this? I'm trying to figure out if this is true or non-sense.

It only takes 2 people at an auction for that to happen.

Decent 6 cyl cars are selling privately for around $10k to $15k right now. There is a XJ12C for sale in Florida for $57k, but, not surprisingly, thats been there for at least 2 years. A nice XJ12C sold privately in LA a few months ago for $14k. The only issue was the color....... muddy brown (probably not the official Jaguar color description)

Even with a true time warp car, it's difficult to imagine $65k. Hopefully some other members have more info.

I have to say there is something about the coupes, but its hard to justify a 10x price delta (Fair to assume you can get a very nice S2/S3 4 door car for $6.5k)

sometimes i need a kick!

2010 a local old timer gave me a 1975 XJC coupe V12 ,manual shift, said take it out the backyard, i showed up next day with flat bed truck loaded up he signed title over to me!

wife said glad that things gone!

didnt run, i fiddled around , new fuel pump and filter, and used Lucas box, started up ,pooped and farted, smoothed out and drove great!

this is the bad part, i never researched XJ coupes, put in a car magazine, for sale, sold it in three days,on advertised price $6500. no haggling(should have had a RED light show).
buyer Emailed direct deposit into my account, overnight, things were happening to fast for me. it cleared fine!

he made all transportation arraingments , shipped to MAUI HI.

he called me month later , said did i know it had a complete rear diff overhaul and shocks, bushings done, like no miles.

it had nice XKE wire wheels and spline drive axles, all new braking system, the super plus was the 4 Speed manual transmission in a V12 coupe!!

now adays the prices are skyrocketing, whodda thought!

Even a pristine XKE is not worth $65,000... coupes and sedans far less.

There must be an over supply of XKE's in your market!

In this country, and also in UK/Europe, $65k would be a bargain for a well sorted E Type. Mint examples are easily in 6 figures.

Default Example of XKE and the low, average and high retail

Red 1967 Jaguar XKE for Sale - Stunning E-Type Coupe

Just an example of the type of XKE vehicle available.. note that $65K falls
in the extreme upper pricing end.

Should have added, "I would not pay that much..."

I didn't dwell around them long enough to recall, but I think they were all auto. There were two more in the concours d'elegance section not photographed - XJC's are pretty cars, but not my thing. If I was in the market for a coupe I would look at XJS.

I believe all XJC Australian new deliveries were auto, about 40% with 12 cyl. A number of private imports ex. UK will have found their way here with manual boxes. There are many more XJC's here than the original delivery number allocated, so one or more of them may be in yesterday's line up. Local XJC aficionado's may correct me!
