Default Crankshaft position sensor

Settle an argument with a friend I said the S3
4.2 engine does not have a crankshaft or camshaft position sensor. Am I correct.

Correct. No need for a cam position sensor, as it has a distributor. The EFI is fairly crude by today's standards, it receives a trigger pulse from the ignition module for engine speed and batch fires the injectors. No attempt is made to synchronize the injector firing with crank position.
