Yesterday I put the brake system together and used a master cylinder cap with a pressure port to pressurize the system. Using a regulator and my air compressor I pressurized the fully empty brake system to 45 psi before the rear grommet unseated itself. I wanted to know at what point it would fail.

Given that 45 psi is far in excess of what this part of the system will see in use I feel comfortable these grommets and elbows.

So this thread is taking an interesting turn. After pricing out a new brake fluid reservoir, I decided it was dumb to spend $200 for a brake fluid reservoir when I could get a whole master cylinder with a brand new reservoir for $150. So I ordered the one @slofut mentioned in post #16.

Look what came in the bag with the master cylinder - two of the grommets and two elbows!

So someone still makes the elbows but you have to buy a whole master cylinder to get them.

Damn, the irony!
Now I remember I have those parts from the last MC I used, I would have sent them to you (if I could find them)! But really the ser3 reservoir is the way to go, much cleaner setup.

Thorsen - I know this is an older thread, but still relevant to all of us. The two items you received from McMaster-Carr (the aluminum elbows and silicone grommets) - How did they hold up. Am getting ready to replace mine and I'd like to go your route if they held up.

Many thanks, Bill

They held up fine but I ended up going with the master cylinder that had the reservoir attached.

If you go the MCMaster Carr route make sure to get EPDM hose. That is resistant to brake fluid and you won't have the issue of the hoses leaking.

I thought PTFE was the hose to use?

A quick search shows both EPDM and PTFE hose are resistant to brake fluid. At McMaster Carr the PTFE hose is $6.13/foot while EPDM is $1.91/foot.

Thorsen - I'm still fighting with my MC and the two plastic 90 degree elbow stock pieces. They are still leaking even with NEW grommets. I did purchase from McMaster-Carr the two aluminum elbows you suggested but failed to order the grommets from them you suggested (oversight on my part). Do you still have a couple new ones left I can purchase?

Hey Bill,
Are you talking about these? I just checked in the garage and couldn't find them but I am also in the middle of the Mark VII project and my garage is a MESS.
