Daimler Double-Six driven in anger ...
I normally post on the X300 section.
today I was driving along in my wife’s XC90 when I saw a lovely series I Jag pulling out of a side road. After a major roundabout, he was still going my way, 2 cars behind, so I pulled over then pulled back in behind him. He wouldn’t have realised I was a Jag fan as I was driving a large piece of Swedish whiteware.
It turned out to be a pristine Double-Six. At the next roundabout I had two options both of which took me where I was going, so I followed the V12. It was up a windy driver’s road called Puketitiri Rd, perfect for a Daimler. He gunned it up the winding hill, I’d estimate full throttle knowing how fast my XJR will go up there. I took great delight in following a 46 yr old V12 being driven hard. It looked superb.
of all the Jaguar saloons, the Series I is the best looking. Awesome.
i only wish I’d had a dash cam...

I have the series 3 Double Six and will remember my whole life the look on a child's face when I kicked down into 1st and floored the throttle climbing a hill. His face was a picture watching the car lift its nose and power up the incline effortlessly with the V12's signature ( I removed the silencers ) throaty growl.

All too often people drive these old Jags as though they were made out of glass. Infuriating.
I try give mine the boot several times each week. Sometimes, conditions permitting, several times each day .
Firstly, I don't have a twelve cylinder Jaguar for the purpose of putt-putting along. I can do that in my old Honda four-banger. A V12 Jag belongs at the head of the pack, not the rear. That's just the natural order of things.
Secondly, I've always felt that carboned-up combustion chambers are a sin. It just ain't right, I tell ya. Gotta keep 'em cleaned out at all times!
Cheers
DD

Hmm. New Forum re-write won't let me quote! Whose bright idea was that?! No matter....
I was about to quote Doug just above, and add, that although I don't have V-12 you'll usually find me at the head of the line.
Any line!
And if there's room, Far ahead of the line.
Only exception might be for a V-12, and out of respect I might not fight for the lead (if I knew it was a V12), but if he's driving his car like it's made of glass he'll lose his place real soon.
Carbon on the valves is a mortal sin! No carbon build up in Any of my engines! (teehee)

Oh yeah!!!
Way back when, my first car, circa 1946. I got the 23 t to actually run. Much to the mixed pride/ surprise of my parents!! My pals quickly labeled me "Speed King".
In a vernacular of the day I "twisted it's ears:. Refering to the spark advance lever on the column to the left ant the throttle lever to the right. Pull each down all the way!!!
Max T output!!!
Only recently, have I backed off. But an occasional blast of Lt1 power feels great !!!

The V-12s pull like a locomotive. Had a 1975 XJ12 coupe (aka the Beast) for a couple of years; I was heading to work one morning dealing with the usual traffic. Here comes a 5-series BMW being driven like, well, you know. We ended up side by side at a stop light. He launched hard on the green, I gave him two car lengths and I caught back up with him. He was as surprised as I was.
Unfortunately, I lost the Beast to an engine fire three years ago. My daughter was driving it at the time; she got out with second-degree burns on her right hand. I think she loved that car more than I did.

HA! I remember my dad when I was young, every time he would floor it he would look at my mom and say "just cleaning out the carbs"...
