Default delayed 2-3 shift

Hi folks, i hope evryone had a fantastic christmas! My car is all done finally! She even got her first coat of wax yesterday! Took her for a nice long drive and found i have a delay in the 2-3 upshift, i had replaced the downshift cable while car was laid up, and set it all by the book making sure that it was at top of cam lobe on full throttle, i do not have a pressure gauge to do the othet test. Is this where my problem lies? Or should i look elswhere???

Does it merely take longer than usual to shift while engine speed remains steady, or does the engine speed up while it's deciding to shift?

Hi Darren, can you go through the shifts for us: What rpm are you at for 2nd and 3rd? And it's a BW 12?

Yes, the detent or TV (throttle valve) cable could be causing this.

You really *should* use a pressure gauge for adjustments but few of us have them....and it appears that minor adjustments seldom take the pressures into the danger zone.

So.....

Try slackening the cable a couple 'flats' of the nut and see if anything changes...and maybe a couple ore flats after that if needed. Not sure If I'd be comfortable with much more than that.

Cheers

thanks Doug, i will give it a shot, the reason i changed teh cable was that when trans was rebuilt about 3 years ago (keep in mind car was pulled off road pretty much right after) the trans shop did a bodge job on the cable! they had replaced it with one that was longer and had just wrapped the new one around a bolt to take up the excess length! Of course being as it was 3 years ago im out of warranty anyways, just don't wanna go back there!!!
And yes its a bw 66, 2-3 shift is happening close to 3k even when not pushing car hard! unless i let foot off for a couple of seconds then it will shift up lower!

I just came back from a test drive after numerous adjustments totaling almost 3/8 " she seems to be doing much better!!! now just gotta find that damned machine gun sound, its not the trans mount, its all new! no shiny spots that i can see on any rotating parts either!! I wonder when the local car club is having its next rack day!!! im sure i could find it in just a couple of minutes if i were able to actually move around under there!!! It sucks having a santa belly!!
