The master cylinder, or if you know how, renew the internal seals as long as the bore of the cylinder is not rusty or scored.

Hi Jose,

I had the same problem with mine last year. Once I got the master cylinder off I found it to be very rusty and pitted so replaced it rather than trying to put new seals in.

I did find though that the paint under the brake booster (servo in the UK) had turned to mush where the fluid had dripped. I had to take the booster and pedal box out to clean it all up and repaint the area so it turned into quite a big job. Reasonably straightforward though.

Thanks XJRAYUK,
Yes, the leak has melted the paint under the master cylinder, fortunately the leakage has not damaged the paint under the booster. I ordered a new master cylinder for the same reason you mention. Didn't want to bother trying to rebuil the original one.

Joe:

That would be my option Nowadays, Buy a rebuilt one.

In years past, I would rebuild. buy a kit and make sure I had a hone to clean up the bore.

Brake fluid is a great paint remover.

I was lucky, a PO replaced both booster and cylinder in my car.

Teh flot atop is messed up. I had it working at one time!

Carl.

Did you need to replace the seal inside the servo when you removed the master cylinder?
