Default Front Hubs throwing grease on wheels

'78 Jag XJ6L Ser II is throwing grease past the edge of the cap and onto the rim of the wheel. Often, with few miles driven. Are they just over-greased and the dust cap can't hold the heated, expanded(?) wheel bearing grease?
There is no "outer seal" that I can locate in the parts books, diagrams. So I assume that the dust cap is supposed to be stopping this grease.... but it is failing to do so.
Or are my dust caps getting out of round from on-off-on over the last 100 thousand miles and it is time to replace them?
I show the cap as CB-6766. Please verify for these aging eyes.
Advice appreciated. Thank you!

Over greased for sure.

It is common these days where too much grease is injected through that nipple.

2 strokes of a "normal" manual gun annually, is all that is needed.

FWIW I gave up greasing the bearings via the grease nipple years ago. IMO it's a throwback from the olden days when we didn't have the high grade lubricants (and hub seals) we have today.

Properly remove, clean, and repack the bearings with modern high-temp synthetic bearing grease and you can forget about it for years

Cheers

What Doug said...only thing I'll add is check the bearings before reinstalling 'em, as it's quite possible they're the original ones, and need replacing....check rollers for blueing and do a "pen test" to see if there's any scoring.

Pretty easy task, and when it's done, it's done for a good long run.
