Question Front lower chrome grill

Hi,
Does anyone know where I can lay my hands on a "New" or "Very Good" front lower chromed grill (sits horizontally below the front bumper). I want to replace both it and the "valance" it sits in. I'm assuming they are bolt on items. Car not here for referencing!

try David at Everyday XJ

it is a one piece grill.

Do you mean the steel body panel connected to both front wings?? I would get a new one from SNG Barrat, or whoever has it new. Both above parts are bolt-on.

Hi Jose,
Yes, I believe it's referred to as the front "valance" The grill sits within it. I agree that a new part would be the way to go. Many thanks, Ian

For the record the lower grille isn't chrome. Is anodized aluminum.

Cheers

Morning Doug,
Thanks for the clarification. That's good news as I can remove it and hopefully tidy it up and repaint with Alum/Chrome finish paint!

yes, it is aluminum and the edges are painted black, the most awful job was done with this grille. Getting it chromed is a good idea. It looks like an adapted bottom-of-refrigerator grille.

Yes the panel between both fenders /wings is called the Valance. A pita to remove but someone's gotta do it. I replaced mine too, thanks to one of those parking lot stoppers. there are two bolts on each bottom corner, very difficult to get to, you'll need wooble sockets. 9/16 bolts if I remember. And the car has to be level, the Valance helps to keep both wings aligned.

Thanks Jose, your guidance is much appreciated. Perhaps this is a good winter project. Will have a look into it.

Keep in mind that the Barratt's valance is a remake.
I needed a new one, ordered it but found it too wide to use.
The grill didn't fit in nicely either.

I chose to recondition the original one instead....

And I thought Barratt was one of the more reputable dealers. Thanks for the head's-up. When I had my S111 E-Type, I always used Martin Robey as my panel supplier. Never had an issue. He even shipped a complete bonnet assembly to me in Toronto from the UK and it fit like glove. Perhaps I'll look him up again. I also used a place on Goldhawk Road, London, UK for all my mechanicals - but they seem to now only specialize in Auto servicing and not only for Jags, but they were very, very good.

Just checked Martin Robey UK for the valance panel. 35 UK pounds. Waiting for shipping quote to Toronto. Will advise on outcome.

Just received the Quote from Martin Robey UK. 35 Pounds unit cost, 50 Pounds shipping to Toronto, plus approx 10 pounds duty = about $140.00 US - pretty steep!

Why don't you contact David at EverydayXJ in NC. He is a member of this forum and posts from time to time. He may be able to provide you with a very good OEM valance and lower grill. You can check his website also.

take a look at the splash panel connected to the valance, if the valance panel was damaged, chances are the splash panel was damaged too.

Finally took the grill off and found it to be in excellent shape! The car was repainted and they did not mask the grill so it's painted Sage Green! Soaking it in stripper and it's coming out just wonderfully. Now a tube of AutoSol and a polishing cloth.
