front/rear window gaskets 1973 xj6

These are pre glue-in, and normally consist of two seals, the main seal, and a filler seal which is there to expand the main seal so it sits nice and tight against screen and screen aperture. However you still need the horrible black screen sealer too, or it will leak !
There were even special screen fitter tools to insert the filler. The SNG Barratt USA website has the seals at a reasonable price. This website does have the official factory parts pictures making things a lot easier !
BTW, the filler seal was covered by a chrome trim piece to make it look nice. When you remove the screens be very careful removing these chrome pieces as they easily distort. Once these are removed, you'll see the filler piece which you pull out and the screen is then much looser and is easily removed

click the following links for front and rear illustrations of the seals and related parts:
you either have a Series 1 or a Series 2 XJ, both were made in 1973. When ordering parts, have your VIN handy because that is what tells the parts supplier what Series it is.
also if you post a picture of the front of your car, we can tell if it is a Series 1 or a Series 2 based on the grille.
Front windscreen seals:

Rear window seals:

Thanks, Fraser, I'll get on SNG website. My chrome strips are off the car and in the trunk. One more question, is rear window same as front, as far as seals go ?
Thanks, Jim
