Default Front suspension overhaul XJC

This first engine support I built in the 90's to the service manual specs iirc. I used it back then but now I don't feel so comfortable with it, it does flex pretty well with the sbc. So I had the HF one in a box unopened and figured it was time to try it out. I was pleasantly surprised.

This is much better by a mile! Put the pvc pipe over the studs to avoid hood damage.

Dropped everything all at once incl the rack. Not a bad job, just took my time.

Road spring removal, got King lowering springs coming.

Amazing these metalastic bushes are 51 years old! I could flip 'em 180 degrees and use them on any other car, only slight sagging on one, not really on the other. I have a pair of new metalastic's though.

Same with this bump stop, no wear or degradation. I'll dust it with the bead blaster to clean it up and paint the metal base with MCU satin black.

Parts for the powder coater. Have others but my Iphone randomly switches to heic format and those won't upload to the forum.

Is it ok if I do it wrong first and then change 'em back right? I feel sure that's what'll happen!

It just doesn't look like you marked them in the picture. Maybe they have part numbers on them to distinguish left from right?

No, you're right Bill, I didn't mark them. I remember thinking the ball joint appendage should point rearward for castor so I can't mix 'em up, But if they CAN be mixed up I'd be one to do it, your point was taken seriously, no sarcasm intended. It seems like these days I have to do everything three times...

Default Parts back from the powder coater

A little pricey but saves me a lot of time cleaning, prepping and painting. $400 for this, I was expecting more like 300, guess it was probably all the smalls. I saved back a few things to paint like the vertical links and hubs, hopefully I can get the wheel wells cleaned and sprayed this weekend and some other cleaning and painting under the engine bay. Need to reconfigure those damn brake lines and proportioning valve, I'm tired of it leaking on the damn paint, it's got to go. I've already cleaned and resealed it, I'm done. I think my ser3 eliminated it. Need to get sway bar brackets for the larger bar, my originals don't fit the larger bar.

New King Springs came in!! They're a full 2" shorter than the tired originals. I wish they were progressive rate. If someone wanted data to dig into that now would be the time to ask.

A two inch difference is HUGE taking into account the leverage ratio on the suspension. Are you sure those springs are the correct ones? If so, they would have to be very hard to compress and might give an awful ride quality.

I am with Greg here.

They are way to short.

We were agents for Kings where I last worked, and had all sorts of issues with them. The package, and the spring tag, stated the "standard" height spring, BUT whatis the box were Super :Low springs. PITA.. Fitted to a Holden, and the thing was on the bump stops. Eventually worked it out, but what a damn mess. It happened too often in my opinion.

Good to know, Grant. I've emailed King for price and opinions on a set of standard rear springs. Pretty pricey, but a possible wrong fit would be worse.

No, just the rears. I'll post over on my "bump-stop" thread so as not to hijack slofut's thread.

Dave, do look into the DB7 rear springs, do some research. I think they're about the same ride height as my originals but look to be a bit stiffer. I think I posted some measurements and observations in another thread here in the last few months.

I share others concerns about the front King spring springs I got. They are the ones for "lowered with chevy 350 conversion" so I'm keeping my fingers crossed, correct pt numbers stamped on the springs. They even say to install them without the packing shims top and bottom. I anticipate having them in and out a few times.

Again, I'm thinking there has to be a custom spring winder shop here in the states that can make them to specs for a lot less money.
