Default fuel changeover solenoids Series III

Can anybody please tell where the two fuel return solenoids are located? I've found the third switchover one near the fuel pump. I've got this odd problem where the car is draining fuel from one tank but returning it to the other...thank you.

They're behind tin plates in the rear wheel wells.

Thanks very much, Doug! I did search the forum but didn't come across that thread.

If you search "return solenoid" it doesn't come up. If you search "return valve", it does.

I can never get this one right;

does the right side solenoid control the Right tank or the Left tank and viceversa?

in other words, if the Right / Passenger side tank overfills, which valve is bad?

Thumbs up change over valves

Doug Dwyer - a fountain of knowledge.

I have over the last few days, been refurbishing / cleaning the fuel system on my 86 XJ6.
Did a search for "changeover valves" and one of Doug's well written, concise write ups popped up . Excellent !!

Thanks a bunch Doug - your accumulated knowledge bailed me out again.

Alyn

I have the same problem at times and have to stop and think.

If the right tank is overflowing then it's because fuel is being drawn from the left tank but being returned to the right tank. So, RH return valve is open when it shouldn't be.

Doug, same here.
i can see where I get confused. And I have also confused the symptom with a leaking tank that was not leaking at all.
