Default Fuel pump measurement request

Hi all -

Bought a replacement fuel pump for my SIII and although it is very well built (in the US too !) of all heavy aluminum body and not a piece of plastic to be seen.... it seems to me a bit small in diameter. I am not near my car and was hoping someone who is could send me the rough diameter of the OEM pump. The one I bought measures about 1 3/4".

It is a Denso pump listed under the 6 or 8 available on Rock auto. Not a cheapy but not the most expensive.

Thanks - Randy

the pump in the picture is for a Series 3 XJ?

It sure does not look like the Series 3 pump, nor does the extended fitting on top. Must be for a Series 1 or 2 ?

try it on the mounting bracket with the foam isolator, I bet it will be too narrow.

According to Rock Auto parts lookup it "fits". I will know next weekend when I get a few days reworking the fuel lines/pump/filters...

I think it is a generic pump and they send you I/O fittings based on the model and year. But it is really a well made looking beast. Weighs a ton.

ok, let us know if it works. Make sure you prime/charge the fuel system after installing it.

the acid tests will be:
1) is it quiet or noisy?
2) did they send extra foam?
3) will the fittings be leak-free?
4) does the engine run inmediately?

Denso. Good brand. Looks great. Might be a bit "skinny" and need more foam wrap to fit it in the older..

Carl.

Update on the fuel pump I bought from Rock auto. It was a Denso and built like a tank. All machined aluminum and no plastic at all. But it was about a 1/2" smaller in diameter once I could compare to the old one. But it came with a hard foam sleeve what when slid on made it the right size. Then using existing foam rings, she fit perfectly in the existing filter clamp. BTW, the old pump would not spin at all either way I connected +/- to the posts from a good battery.

TBD Jose

Still putting together fuel sys... if I can find bloody decent FI hose clamps in this town. Advance Auto is based in Raleigh and they have 90 gazillion sq ft warehouse at the store I stopped. All they had were cheap *** Chinese junk clamps that were too small

I use Norma and can’t find them retail anywhere 😡

are those like special clamps or something?

Tried ACE Hardware?

I use the stainless steel clamps everywhere they need replacing. Didn't know fuel injection clamps were needed.

my '84 still has original clamps which aren't much different.

Not sure this style is 100% required for FI hoses, but when I look on sites for hose clamps (like BelMetric), these are shown under the "High pressure" section. And I just like this style a little more, whether I use them for FI or not.

those look like Band Clamps. I used those in the exhaust systems of my Jags.

maybe you are not finding them because you are searching for "fuel hose clamps". instead of "band clamps".

Racing equipment sites like www.Jegs.com have them.

Lots of variations on F.I. hose clamps. The key thing is that they are smooth on the inside.

Looks like these ^^^^ lack the rolled edges

NAPA ...at least the store close to me....sells a smooth clamp but you have to ask for'em.

Lots of junk out there. Good stuff is expensive. You won't get the good stuff by paying 69-cents each. Order what you need in advance because the good stuff isn't always stocked at the typical parts stores

Cheers
