Default Fuel tank cleanliness (pic)

I recently had the need to drain my fuel tanks to make some changes to fuel pump set up on my 6 liter swap in my ‘74 XJ12.

I put new tanks in three years ago and have probably 1000 miles in the car in total driving with those tanks. And I was surprised how much sh*t was in them. I mean, it wasn’t visible while draining but still, I can see the benefits of draining the tanks now and again. I should note I cleaned and flushed the fuel lines and tanks before install so that’s stuff I couldn’t get out or stuff that got in over the past 3 years.

This is why lots of Series III owners add two filters (left and right) between the tanks and the pump.

I'm not familiar with Ser II fuel plumbing so I can't say if such a thing would be feasible. Might be worth thinking about.

Cheers

Doug's comment about dual filters is very wise, FYI here is a picture of mine in an S3. In addition, the stock filter is still in place down stream from the pump.

Probably stuff pumped in there from the gas pumps and stuff you couldn't get out, true. I cleaned mine the same, new tanks and rubber lines, cleaned carb flushed and blew out hard lines etc... Have a glass filter at the carb and have still dumped it out several times! Amazing. This wouldn't do for fuel injection components.
