Fuel tank XJ6 S1 ...options to repair?
It would seem my 1973 xj6 s1 has a leaking fuel tank... they are old and have been sitting many years.
Before purchasing 2 new fuel tanks, is there any process that can restore the current fuel tanks
as a reliable long term unit.?
Is acid dipping and then welding/ + pressure testing an option or something .
regards
Peter

Hi,
in my opinion it is not worth throwing money at the old tanks. Just replace them.
There are new tanks available. One supplier is Martin Robie in the UK. There are others in Canada and USA. Also check eBay.

Radiator repair shops, if you have any in your area, often do gas tank repairs. I've had several repaired over the years for as little as $80 to $250....the latter including a liquid lining which is often done as a DIY thing.
You'll just have to pull 'em out and see how bad they are and go from there. Often they're just too far gone.
Cheers

Peter, They are decades old. Bite the bullet and put them out of their misery (and end yours). Their cost is no more than a tank for a modern car, and if it was just a modern car, I'd just replace them and live happily ever after. Ian

Aye, decades ago, I was building a 32 "B" Ford 4 cylinder engine. I found about an inch of sand in the oil pan. Amazingly the rest of the engine was quite decent. And, could well have run just fine. But, I had ideas of more power and full oil to the crank. It had partial crank oiling. .
alas, the bottom was porous. I considered welding. No, too much heat, the remaining metal will vaporize!! Braze. That might work. As I heated and added brass,, more pin hoes appeared!!! I ended up with the entire floor of the sump coated in brass!! I sod the engine unfinished. Teh new owner was impressed1!!

Anyone have any reports on the Spectra and/or Lilland tanks on offer from Rockauto. I bought a Lilland all aluminum radiator from Rockauto but have yet to install it. On inspection, it seems to be very well put together.
At $350 per tank I'm tempted. My tanks seem fine and I don't seem to have a problem (yet), but a replacement of new shiny ones on the back shelf would be nice to have.
