Fuses for 1987 xj6 series 3.
Hi Everyone,
First let me say how much I enjoy reading the posts on this forum (esp. as I am now retired !!!!). Much thanks to all.
I just got a 1987 xj6, 104K miles. no/none (really) rust, a few small body dings and various odds and ends not working. I cannot believe the general quality decline, over the last 20/25 years, in comparing it (fit/build/design intent) to my 2006 x type wagon. Great to have a car with only a few electronic "gizzmos" to go wrong. This xj6 almost makes me proud to be British!!!
OK. So dumb question? Where can we get these Lucas glass fuses....non of the USA "specialists" list them....can I still get them from a Jag dealer?
I'm awaiting arrival of workshop/parts manuals at the moment.
Oil is really dirty...motor sounds great. I was thinking of using Napa Premium 15w/40 for the oil change (but flush with 5w/30 for 30mins first), for above freezing everyday use...anyone?
Thanks,
Rob.

I don't think these are genuine Lucas, but they approximate the look:
25 Amp Glass Fuse
Or maybe here?
Fuses
Any particular reason you want the Lucas fuses?
Motor oil: 20/50 is the usual favorite for the old XK engines
Cheers

Thanks DD,
I've got two of the 17/35A fuses blown (inc the spare) . Looks like they were in the wrong place for the cooling fan motor...should be a 10/20A......the red relay is now "toast"....I'm trouble shooting this now.
I spent an hour looking through the glass fuses in our Napa store.....Physical size of
the Lucas unit is 7/32nd dia x 1.125" long....sizes of the Napa units are 1/4" dia x 7/8" or 1" or 1.25" long...fitting issue here as well as amp spec.
The second link will provide the blown 17/34A units. I'm thinking there must be millions of these in the UK....all the cars I had in the UK (Austins, Rovers,Triumphs)in the 70s and 80s used them. Just though it would be great the get a few spares in stock.
Thanks,
Rob.

This rating conversion might be helpful.
Fuse Conversion Chart
As far as physical size goes I don't recall problems using non-Lucas fuses but maybe I just got lucky
Cheers

So far so good. I've used that table to sub in SAE fuses in lieu of Lucas fuses. So far so good.
Gone are the days that I 'fixed' a blown fuse with 'tin foil" from a chewing gum wrapper.
And, my earliest critters had no fuses atall
My lump has an auxiliary fuse panel in blade fuses., So much better.
Jaguar mantra. clean, tighten and lube electrical connections. Especialy with all grounds wherever they might be found.
Enjoy
Carl
