Default Getting ready for paint

I had a few stone chips and some grocery cart dings so I decided to repair all of the flaws.
Besides the chips and dings the paint was very good.
Since I am not good at blending paint, I decided to repaint the whole car.
I also purchased a grill insert at a car show in Miami last week. I had to cut it to make it fit.
The vendor said it was the last one he had, so for $20, what the heck.

*So far,* I can make do with a bottle of BLACK nail enamel, a tooth pick, a steady hand and patience (that's the hardest part).

None of the rock chips were covered when I got the car and it looked Terrible. So I have an idea what you were dealing with.

I'll look forward to seeing the finished product.

Looks like a great masking job. I don't know if you're inclined to do it, but you have a wonderful opportunity to get rid of the rub strips along the sides of the car… Andrew.

@ Tar: I am tempted to remove them but since I do not have welding equipment for the holes, it would have to stay.
The masking off of the car is painstaking because I am changing the color of the car from
Regent Grey to Black, so all of the visible areas have to be prepped and masked off.
Yesterday, I removed the front doors to prep and paint the area where the hinges are since there is not enough room to use the spray gun without missing a large area.
Painted them last night and reinstalled them this morning. All door jams are now painted.
I finished sanding the car with #600 wet/dry. Tomorrow I go over the whole car with
#800.
Paint job should be completed by Thursday if the humidity level drops or whenever.
Right now the humidity level is extremely high and with my garage doors (3 of them) open, it is unbearable and also not good for painting.

when can you paint mine? I will deliver it completely disassembled and masked, I am not changing color, but it needs a thorough sanding job and a respray. I reassemble everything, I'm too picky for body shops.

Finally, low humidity. I was able to put on 2 coats of paint and then, THE RAIN CAME.
Since I can't paint this weekend, due to obligations with my better half, it means that I will now have to re-sand the complete car in order to finish the last two coats or else the paint will not adhere properly. THIS SUCKS.

What type of paint are you using Sanchez?
Last time I did a motorcycle I used a twin pack and almost gassed myself. The in thing just now seems to be the water based paints but I think you need all sorts of special equipment.
Good luck and may all your panels be free of runs and orange peel.

Was it Emron?
I know Experienced painters who say right up front they won't touch the stuff because of its toxicity.

[QUOTE=LnrB;1739090]Was it Emron? /QUOTE]

Don't remember but it had some nasty stuff in it.( I read the hazard data sheet and foolishly ignored it) Thought I'd be ok with garage doors and windows open but really breathing apparatus should be worn when using it.

Gave a good finish though straight from the gun. .
Almost worth getting gassed for

I am using the MATRIX BC/CC system which I have used before with excellent results.
All paint systems are toxic in nature whether it be PPG, Emron Acrylic Urethane, Acrylic Enamel and the list goes on and on. You choose your poison.
I have professional breathing apparatus available to me with a three stage filtration system and 3 paint guns of my own. I also have two extractors that allow for proper airflow in my home garage. Rental is $20.00 per day as needed.
My favorite spray gun is a SATA, which puts down paint as smooth as silk and I am by no means a professional painter. I am using a 1.4 tip for BC and I have a choice of 1.4 or 1.2 tip for CC. I am self taught and learnt by trial and error.
Hopefully, I will be finished painting by Tuesday or Wednesday.
Runs and orange peel is caused by operator error and bad equipment/adjustment.

Progress is being made. I completed the paint job last night. This morning I saw some flaws on the hood so I sanded and repainted the hood. I also started to buff the sunroof.
I should be done by the end of the week.
