See picture below. The back half of the headliner fabric and fiberglass board are missing. Looking online, I'm seeing some foam-backed (1/8") fabric from places like Moss. Is that dense enough to replace the board and sit against the metal? If not, any ideas on how to go about covering the roof?
Contact BAS Jaguar Interiors for the real factory fabric and pad. They are closer to the USA.
you can't just glue fabric over the metal roof because of the sunroof cables. the pad allows for the cables to move.
Or try to find a used fiberglass pad in a salvage yard or from www.everydayxj.com and then buy a roll of the fabric from BAS.
the full size fiberglass pad will come out and go back in through the rear door if done carefully, it is somewhat flexible.
Best to remove all seats to be able to work inside.
benji808,
If you decide to pull the trigger on the headliner you posted a link to reach out to me. I too like the design and if we order one or two or more maybe the shipping will be more tolerable. I just recently pulled the headliner out of a parts car I have, all seats removed, and I can see a high likelihood of damaging the new headliner upon reinstalling. Please instruct me differently, but if folding a new headliner is the method of choice I am not sold. Also, on removal the edges of the headliner dragged considerably against the door frame, and I can see where this would be an issue on reinstalling. Or am I missing something? I know lots of people have said they had success with removing it out the rear doors.

He has some videos on the website (look at the thumbnails on the link I'm posted and you can watch them) that make it look like he has replaced the fiberglass board with some kind of flexible plastic, which can fold/twist a bit easier than the original (I'm guessing).
I found a similar-looking product here: New Headliner For Jaguar XJ6 / XJ40 | eBay They say they have SIII as well, but I haven't found a listing yet.
I have messages out to both places asking for details and will hopefully hear back soon...will let you know. They ebay shipping seems really reasonable compared what I'm seeing elsewhere.
I just heard back from Jag Head linings in the UK and just shipping for their foldable head liner would be around 375 to 500 British pounds, that's a whopping $467.00 to $623.00 US dollars. Guess I can live with trying the through the door method after all.

I called and talked with him. He uses ebay's standard global shipping, which appears to cost ~80 pounds. His board is fiberglass, and he can do the sunroof cutout if you send him a note.
That one is no different than the factory one, which I have two spares of. I liked the flexible style from the UK for ease of installation since you can fold it without damaging it.. If you are looking for just the factory style replacement I would think getting one locally would be less costly.
shipping a headliner pad would require very heavy reinforcing of a very large box, otherwise handling by shipping companies will most always crack it. Best bet is to search in local salvage yards and do the removal work yourself.
