Red face Heater control vacuum tank.

Hi all,

Went to refit the "pie shaped" vacuum tank in my Series 1, as part of the never ending restoration adventure. It's the one that sits in the aperture in the fender up near the firewall (wiper motor hides in the one on the opposite side).
Surprise, surprise the tank had become a "rattle can", presumably rusting from the inside out. Holes soon appeared as I tried to empty out the flakes of rust.
So in short, its cactus.
No luck with Barratt's etc sourcing the part & I suspect its NLA.
I would be grateful if anyone has "been there, done that" & can suggest an alternative or work around or maybe even has a serviceable spare?
No hurry with the heater though. Summertime here & next week temp. forecast is a mild 42 degrees C.
Thanks & regards.
Pete.

all Jags have a vacuum tank. Source one from a 420, if no luck, from a Series 2 or 3 or XJ-S which are sort of similar to the pancake shape.
Post a picture of yours and I can compare to one I have from XJ-S.

"Summertime here" sure has a nice ring to it. Here in the heartland of America it is freezing!

From the part diagrams, the series 2 tank looks very similar to the series 1, but different part number. Have you tried Jagara Spares in Sydney? Geoff has a good stock of used parts as well as new. I just bought a used rear view mirror from him, it was in very good condition and the price was fair. Jagara will post parts to you.

Thanks guys for the tips.
Luckily I have sourced a Series 2 tank locally, in exchange for a bottle of Barossa Shiraz. But the inlet/outlet pipe is smaller (hence the 2 different part #'s).
Maybe I can cut the pipe off the S1 tank & araldite/JB Weld it over the smaller S2 one?
Wonder if the smaller outlet would impact on the vacuuming action, but I am guessing no.

PS Tried to include pics, no luck with that.

Just step up/down the vacuum hoses going to it, easier than trying to modify the tank.
