Default ignition switch 1972 xj6

The ignition switch won't turn the engine off? 305 chev conversion. Have to ground out the ignition switch.

"Ground out" I don't get it.

From way out there I suspect one or both of the following:

1. Errant back feed. diode needed, not in the circuit.

2. Internal switch issue.

So, other than the white wire from the switch to the coil + poast, is there any other?
