My new 87 XJ6 SIII has a very noisy ignition warning buzzer and I'm not even sure what it is trying to warn me about. I started the car? The door is open? I already know these things. So I want to pull the wires from the buzzer but can't find it. I removed the under scuttle on the driver's side and I can hear that it is down there somewhere. I usually just use my fingers to find which thing is vibrating and that is the culprit. But that isn't working; I can't find anything vibrating but sure can hear it. I've looked through the service manual and the wiring diagrams but can't seem to find it. Anyone know how to identify it without my just starting to pull wires until I get it?

BTW, my other SIII is a very early 79 and it is amazing how much the under dash area changed over the years. When I was disabling the ignition buzzer on the 79 it took me about 10 seconds to find it. Thanks for your help.

the buzzer also sounds for seat belts.

it is located behind the Speedometer, along the row of relays which are attached to a wide gold annonized bracket back there.

 

Best place for it is under the head of a BFH.

I started this post last October and just solved the puzzle. On an 87 at least the area under the dash is jam packed with stuff and I am going to state unequivocally that it is impossible to disconnect the seat belt buzzer from below. Now the good news: pop out the tachometer and there is is. Unless your tach is stuck you can disconnect your seat belt buzzer in about 3 minutes flat with no tools.

As I am in the process of replacing all the wood in my car and have the dash out I made a little YouTube video on the procedure.

 

Hmm.
My car, Series 2, has that buzzer (different configuration) hidden behind the glove box (Left drive car).
It also wouldn't shut off the first time I pulled the battery ground and reconnected.
I did the same as you; I found the stinker and pulled the connector off.

I still have ALT/BAT light, Oil and High Beam.
I don't need anything else either.

That buzzer is so annoying so I can’t wait to disconnect it. Could Jaguar have come up with a more obnoxious sound?? I had previously scoured the internet looking for instructions on how to disconnect it but didn’t find anything. Now I can! :-)

1. Early 70's. Staff attorneys got company cars. Not I. I had a desk job. Most chose Olds Cutlass!!! Rank involved. My boss, the claim VP got a Buick. The Prez got a Cadillac.

The Chief attorney told of how to get rid of the seat belt buzzer. An Olds tech told him how, if he did not reveal the source. OOOps, it seems he did!! No more buzzing in the parking garage...

2. My 83 was quiet. PO must've fixed that. Indeed, when I swapped out the ignition switch, I saw a little harness that was free. the NOs switch had a place to piggy back it on. I did. Buzz back. Not as pleasant as the warning on my Jeep. But, for my challenged hearing, no issue...

We were driving home from purchasing the car. Leaving the hotel one morning I left the engine running and got out to check something. I get back in the car and my wife is standing 20 feet away, arms folded. I asked her what's wrong and she told me to never get out of the car if that stupid buzzer is going!

 

Is the seat belt horn the same as the ignition "key in" warning ('86 SIII)

 

it is not a key-in warning buzzer, it is a SEAT BELT NOT CONNECTED buzzer.

1) you can try pressing the interior lights plunger switch at the door jamb to stop it buzzing.

2) you can connect the seat belt buckle to the seat belt buckle RECEIVER before sitting on the front seat and it will not buzz.

 

Was not aware of a seat belt warning noise!!! None in my car. but, so is the switch in the A pillar that lights the interior!!! I have a replacement, but, no loger the dexterity to install it. wires adrift behind that panel/..

Thanks for info, I've tried the door plunger and no luck. I'll try the seat belt trick. I didn't word my question well. Is the buzzer behind the tach activated by either the seat belt and/or the ignition? If so I'd rather disconnect the bundle above the buzzer. Thanks again.

 

Another way is to keep the door light switches from working. I'm always working on my car and often leave the doors open for extended periods (plus I rarely drive at night). So I made little metal strips and using the original switch retaining screw put them on all four doors. Now no light and no buzzer.
