Angry Jaguar XJ6

I am considering buying an XJ6 2001 Jaguar 75k mileage , from a longtime friend.
It has a check engine light on and passenger seat belt light on
I am told the check engine light is a Cam Sensor, that has been checked out, however in order to replace it the engine has to be pulled.
my friend says hie mechanic found the sensor to be fine but it is stuck with gunk.
myfriend is selling this case for 3,000$
I am looking for advice?
The car otherwise, is in perfect condition
help?

Hi, this forum is for XJ up to 1987. You might ask in the XJ-40 and X-300 forums.

my opinion is to look for another car if indeed you have to pull the engine. You would be buying someone else's problem.

If it is a 2001, US market car it is not an XJ6, it is an XJ8, factory code X308. The sensor is "stuck with gunk"?....how often was the oil changed?

@PSue, if the MIL is on, has anyone checked to see what DTCs are stored? If so, post them here so we know what is wrong with the vehicle.

Does your 'friend' have a service history to go with the car? If he or she does not, find yourself another X308 (XJ8) that has a verifiable service history that shows the primary and secondary timing chains, guides and tensioners have been upgraded to the latest versions.

Welcome to the forum.
