Default Leaking carb

Having issues with my front carb. If the engine doesnt fire up on first attempt then she will flood and not start for a while. Fuel will leak from the front carb when this happens...both float chambers are clean and floats and valves are new and appear to be working...shutting off fuel when full. What could be causing this? There is no fuel coming from the float chamber overflow.....just from the carb into the air filter housing.

I remember having similar problems, but I was about to do a full carb rebuilt anyway, so I just changed everything.
Make sure the fuel level is correct. If it's set properly and the valve is working correctly then I think that most likely it's the needle seat/jet needle.
Have you changed these parts?

Take a look at this video, it helped me understand why the fuel level is so important

I agree. On generic know how and experience, Not this system.

There are two elements to the valve. A needle and a seat. If either is scored, they will not seal off fuel.

The geometry is critical. If askew, the needle and seat will not match up and close off the passage for the fuel.

The float may not float. Too heavy, pieced and fuel inside.

I had a great adventure getting the Carter YP to seal. Used on my 65 Turbo Corvair. Got it to work, but succumbed to a Webber DHOE 45!!!! So far superior....

Had a look at the offending carb float and all was good with it. When i turn the ignition on fuel will slowly seep from the offending front carb. And yet again after a few startups the carbs and engine flooded. And yet again fuel seeps from the front carb. Could it be set to running too rich or could it be the needle in the carb?

Even if it was set to running to rich it shouldn't leak when you turn the ignition on. I would focus on the needle seat or jet needle itself, these are most likely to be the cause of your problems.
Is the underside of the carb around the seat wet from fuel?

Also check the integrity of the small hose from the bowl to the jet assembly. I had a similar sounding problem with an SU and it was just that perished hose.

Problem solved. Yet again my own silly fault. I had both float overflow pipes tidyed away into a sealed water bottle. I never thought that they acted as venting also so the fuel and air was veing pressured into the carb. Note to self dont block off over flow pipes.

Great. Solved is solved. We have all been there.

"a sealed vent is not a vent" !!!!!:

Vent the bottle and all is well again.
