Default Lowering Series 1 XJ6

So, I hope it's not a sin to ask or do this haha, but I am restoring a friends '73 XJ6 and at some point he wants to do something with the suspension, specifically lower it. Has anyone here done this? He is leaning toward air bags, but I'm thinking a nice set of coil overs would be better. Any thoughts would be great guys!!

Lower it a bit, or slam-it-right-down-to-the-ground?

Cheers
DD

Remove the packing rings in the front springs, this will lower the front of the car.

Default lower baby!

Add 1/4 spacers... they go between where the lower control arm bolts to tray that holds the spring. Sounds counter intuitive but yes add spacers to lower. You will need longer bolts. Everything you need to do this is available at your local hardware or big box home improvement store.

Well he wants to take it to car shows, sit it on the ground, then bring it back up to drive height for average driving. The link was quite helpful, sad for the posters friend though. I remember my friend mentioning something about having to cut and weld, which currently is out of my comfort zone. We have just over 5k for work on the car which I hope will be enough to cover the bigger safety stuff. And maybe some interior bits.

I'm assuming the fender wells will need to be modified as well to accommodate the lower ride height?

The car is quite a sensation and he's introduced a whole new generation to Jaguars. You may want to reach out to him on FB. There are also lots of great picts of the car on FB too.
