Lumping the A/C Compressor
Will my new GM A/C compressor need to have a relay added to the clutch control wire from the Delanair 2? There are four (I think) relays in the unit, but I'm not sure they are used to latch the compressor clutch. The clutch is just a big electro-magnet and I would think it doesn't require much current to engage, but I could very well be wrong. I am not going through the GM PCM to control the A/C, I will leave it to the Delanair to do what it has been doing, just for a different compressor.
Any flies in this ointment?
Thanks

I would't worry about adding a relay unless there's some reason to think the clutch on the new comp will draw more than the old one. And I can't think of any reason it would.

I have added a relay, however not to operate the compressor, mine is spliced into the compressor 12 volt feed, and actually throws a ground over to the relay for the high speed cooling fan, found the diagram for this on shbox.com.
or domyou have a different setup.in mind to control the cooling fan without using the pcm???

I'm going to use a separate fan controller with adjustable on/off temp from Flex-a-lite. It also has the capability of turning on with the A/C, but I haven't considered that yet, the way you set yours up is probably how the instructions will say to wire it. I plan to have a switch in the console to turn the compressor on/off and a couple of other things in the Delanair unit.
