Question Manual choke for XJ6C 1976 series lll

Any general advice, experience dealing with dysfunctional automatic choke on this model? I have run the gamut of problems with the auto choke, and, I think in desperation, mechanic is suggesting mounting a manual choke. Does this make any sense?
Any specific advice or warnings out there. The carbs are SU type, Zenith Stromberg Carlson.,

Joe CURTO has a manual choke kit that I installed many years ago and I'm quite happy with it. Not cheap at $250

thanks for the tip. $250 seems a pittance compared to what I've already invested in this carburetor!

Dear all,

i came across this post as i also have the Strombergs and with what appears to be the same or at least similar manual choke conversion.

My issue is that I believe there is an issue somewhere as I get pretty poor mileage (mid teens British mpg, I used to get 20-22 so I am not that heavy footed) and plugs 1 to 4 are black and sooty while 5 and 6 are a more healthy tan.

I am looking for a vacuum leak but any tips on this choke mechanism would be appreciated. The cables are slack when off so this should not interfere but perhaps it needs adjusting....? Difficult to know what to dust though.

Any thoughts appreciated.
