If he had his kids along, he'd have lost at least one.

the whole EV extravaganza is going too fast and it is out of control. Now they want to push self-driving EVs down our throats in the name of "green". I say b.s.

the song says it all: "We gots to move these, refrigeraters, we gots to move these color tv's"

It will all come to a slow halt if the grid isn't upgraded to handle the extra draw. And I would bet power plants aren't built overnight.

"They" say, there are 838,000 EVs registered in California atm, 518,000 registered in 2022 alone.
"They" also say that by 2030 8 Million EVs will be on the road, requiring 1.2 Million chargers.
https://calmatters.org/environment/2...ric-cars-grid/

Last summer (2022) during the hottest days, PG&E advised EV owners NOT to charge their cars as the Grid, already stressed by Millions of residential AC units, refrigerators, freezers and Big screen TVs, would not be up the task.
There were rolling blackouts anyway.

California's Net Zero EV plan, is to buy out-of-state generated electricity from AZ and NV... and buy all new solar panels each 15 years, made in China with Coal Fired electrical plants, and buy new EV batteries each 10-15 years. (Again made in China). California New Math. Bad idea + bad idea + bad idea = good plan. " Progress"

I apologize for the lack of technical content, so I will added: My 1984 XJ6 S3 is still required to be smog checked every two years?????

Not to defend E-cars by any stretch but Jags don’t exactly have the best reputation as far as car fires go. I throw the stones rather gently 😁

And all that coal being used for manufacturing in China is coming out of Australia while our politicians are shutting down Australian power plants to reduce emissions and save the planet.
I don't get it!

Not quite right, demand for coal has dropped and not made it worthwhile in various parts of the world to produce including Victoria etc. Is S Aust most of its energy (70%) is from renewables in various form. Reliance on interstate coal suppliers is getting less and less.

You have got to be kidding me. The demand for coal has been increasing and a new coal mine in Queensland have just been approved by the federal government, primarily for export.
Your SA 70% renewables is pie in the sky as you have to buy baseload power from interstate as your government shut down the only coal fired power station in the state.
Also note the scramble in Europe as countries reopen coal fired and nuclear power stations to offset the loss of Russian gas and energy due to the Ukranian conflict.
By the way your renewables devices for solar and wind will need replacement in 15 years.

We have various problems that we don't understand. We don't know which we want to solve, but we want to be seen to be doing something. And we don't care if we make things worse. But that's all fine because we're politicians.

Hey, but at least our Marelli meltdowns and associated Jaguar fires can be put out by a capable V12 owner, or the local fire dept if necessary. Those ev fires are like a mini chernobyl.

That's the week of Sinterklaas in the Netherlands. It may be some over indulgence in the celebrations and starting a fire seemed like an exciting thing to do ...

Yep. Only "works" (if you ignore a Statewide blackout) due to the presence of a interconnector to coal and gas powered VIC and half a billion dollars worth gas generators installed in the lead up to a summer election. Over the last 12 months 35% of SAs power gad been gas or diesel source:https://aemo.com.au/energy-systems/e...-dashboard-nem and even then they conveniently leave out the input from the interconnector in that stat. A high percentage of so called "renewables" results in an increasingly complex and unstable grid which is why SAs power is the most expensive in the country.

And one of the most expensive in the World!
Tell me about it as I have watched my leccy bills "soar" over the last 5 or 6 years.
PS - dunno about you, but the meeja here in South Oz and I guess all/most of Oz have recently discovered a new favourite buzz word - the word soar. Nothing ever goes up or rises or increases any more, everything "soars".

Never mind the cost, just feel the virtue. We are yet to reach your heights of planet saving , however Dear Leader Dan seems intent on taking us over the cliff . so we will be along shortly.

I really struggle to see the virtue in deliberately destroying your State's or country's electricity generation!
