Default Brake Master Cylinder for XJ6 Series 3

Hello experts,

Please will Land Rover 300 master cylinder fits my series 3?
My breaks are not working well and the mechanic has recommended we change the master cylinder but I can not source it locally, if any other car's master cylinder can fit then please let me know.

I used this mitsibishi MC. It has many advantages.

Same bore
Wont fail... It's alu so it will last 10x more time
Fittings exit on the top inside so brake line routing is much shorter and more direct and all air come easily
The top exit MC is easier to bleed,
The bolt holes have to be oval'd a bit and it will bolt up.
have to Convert to remote reservoir like a series 2
Very low cost.
You can take the internal spring out of your existing MC and replace the Mitsubishi spring and have the exact same pedal feel. (not necessary)
Booster rod jam nut will need to be ground down for clearance,
Other have done similiar so google it, specifically on the XJS
The turbo varient has the same bore as the jag, you can use the non-turbo version which has a 1 inch bore for a tighter pedal with a bit more effort.
You will certainly need a crafty mechanic to make it work but the advantages are many and furture replacement will be easier but far less likely.

Regardng a master cylinder, have you requested a price quote from any suppliers in the US??? It's not that big a deal to ship something to you- we send parts like this overseas all the time....

Thanks

Why not just overhaul the original brake master cylinder with a repair kit?

Easily available AAU6838J from David Manners or SNG Barratt

Can you give us some details? Does the brake pedal go to the floor? Is the brake pedal hard as a rock and takes a lot of pressure to stop? Does the car swerve to one side when you brake? Details will help us figure out what is going on.

Hi Jeff
the break goes to the floor and very loose not hard as rock and when pressed, it fast goes to the floor like no pressure in it.

it has been bleeded several times from the lines in the master cylinder but issue remains same

You either have a leak in the system or the master cylinder seals need replacing. It is a straightforward job to dismantle the master cylinder, hone out the bore and fit new seals to the piston after a good clean up.

I agree, if the pedal goes to the floor quickly you have a bad leak or the master cylinder is bad. If it is a leak the fluid level will be going down and you will see a puddle under the car. If no dripping the seals in the master cylinder are bad. One other thing it could possibly be is the pedal assembly broke. If you unbot the master cylinder and pull it up you should be able to see the brake rod moving where it goes into the master cylinder. Hope this helps.

I got a question about my 1990 xj6 break pedal is hard as a rock I tried replacing master cylinder and pretty much everything that’s connected to the master cylinder and replaced the thing in the trunk and I’m still getting no fluid outta the rear breaks

Cars, you mean you open the rear bleeder valve and pump the pedal and nothing comes out?
How about the front calipers?
What thing in the trunk?

yes nothing comes out the rear but the front bleeds fine and the pump kicks on for a little bit but after it builds up pressure it doesn’t come back on unless u loosen the line coming from the abs pump to the master cylinder no clogged lines or anything

Cars,
Your 1990 XJ6 is a different beast than ones covered in this section of the Forum, you need to check into the XJ40 section for best answers.
