Default Mmmm this has come off !

This was on the floor when I got back from work. It's dropped off from the passenger side (RHD drive) and must've fell off yesterday.
I've had a look and can't see anything obvious. The plate is quite heavy gauge but was held in place with 3 screws as opposed to 3 bolts.

Any ideas ???

I think that's from behind one of your wheels and is the spigot that you put the jack under; one behind each wheel. Bizarre that it would drop off like that.

You've got to keep tightening stuff on these cars, e.g. check the studs on your head b/c they can come loose easily, too.

I'd be having a good look around underneath because that piece is really badly rusted. The screws look like they have just rusted away, and the piece has quite advanced rust erosion.

Could be. I had the wheels off over the weekend but only on the drivers side. Very strange

I'll get underneath and have a good look around tomorrow

It looks a bit like a jacking point button but I've never seen one screwed on before. I've only seen them welded to the what passes for a frame.

Whatever it is, Rust Bugs have got to it, as you can see by how they ate right through two remaining screws.

Just seems weird that such a heavy gauge bracket, especially if it's a jacking point bracket, would be screwed on rather than bolted on

That is definitely a REAR jacking point button (same on either side of the car). The jacking button with a round mounting plate as shown in LnrB's pic is a front one.

Cheers,

Cheers,
It's not that I doubted you for a second, Tony, but I just had to see for myself! You're Absolutely Right! There are 2 of these under Nix's rear doors.

Considering the condition of the jacking buttons that started this thread, I'll be watching mine Very closely!

Elinor, given the location of pnwrs2000 I suspect those jacking points have been ravaged over the years by salted roads. Ours are less likely to rust to that extent, but still worth keeping an eye on!

PNWRS 2000:

Ouch! The thing is falling apart. The rust monster has feasted, indeed.

Grinder and welder??? How far out/in can you go with the grinder to get healthy meta???

And, as we all know rust don't weld worth a hoot.

Perhaps a clamping plate on the other side might provide. enough heft to
bolt the jack plate back on.

And, is there enough of it left to use????

Carl

That will need addressing with a grinder and welder. When you attack it with a grinder I suspect it will be a lot worse than you think.
Cut all the rot out until you get back to good metal. Make some plates up and weld or take it to a good welder.
It's a structural area so would fail the MOT test here.
Sorry....

Whoa! That's not meant to come off like that! That looks like it might have rusted from inside, below the rear seat? Water can gather in the seat well if you have a rear Window leak, may it's made its way down to side above that. I could be completely wrong however. I hope that your rust removal goes well with out too many surprises.

That is a rear jacking point, and if it just fell off, then there is very serious rusting in that area. As the rear suspension radius arm mounts are not far away, I would think the car would be getting to a dangerous condition.
