Dropped daughter off at rowing practice this morning and noticed while sitting in traffic i had a deeper tone that normal coming from my exhaust, also it seemed

to be coming from under the car versus behind it. So i pulled over and had a look, one of my front mufflers had blown apart at the seam. I Continued on my way home and saw a muffler shop with all bay empty so i swung in and asked what they could do.
New mufflers (universal fit) were going to be about 85 per side ( would have to do both or it would sound funny) so i asked about deleting them, and that was 100. Sold!!
When they started car up.after completing the job i was a little disappointed, i couldnt hear a difference...
But its there! When driving theres a deeper tone, somewhat throaty ( is that a word?)
Im very happy with how it came out.

It is a popular conversion. Does sound different, as long as it doesn't make a drone noise on a long trip.

Interesting, Darren.
It certainly looks clean!
And I'm SO Envious of the underside of your car!! I guess that's how it is when a car has been properly cared for all its life and not driven over rocks as big as the hall closet.

In the picture we see a section of pipe where the rear mufflers were.

Question... what do you have in front?

Not too difficult to install a couple of glass packs in that position where the new pipes are... a DIY project and may quiet it down somewhat. If that is what you want.

I may be wrong (happened a few times lol) but I feel that a pair of short glass pack mufflers in the middle that have 2 inlets , a common "body" and 2 outlets,.. takes the harshness out of the sound.

I am going to **** off the Porsche people but I can not stand the exhaust sound on those cars. Of all the cars I have owned,...my old 67 Corvette
(with side pipe exhaust) had a great sound whether under hard acceleration or cruising on the freeways. But a place in the Jaguar system where both cylinder banks (V8) are merged together (X-pipes) (H pipes) can /will provide a mellow tone. My 2 cents.. (putting on helmet, hunkering down,.. to ward off Porsche owner attacks.

Lnr, Thanks, i was taught to take care of.my undercarriage at a young age. Lol

Alyn, The picture shows the pipes where the front mufflers used to be, not the rear.
In front of that is nothing, just manifolds to pipes, its a European exhaust with no cats.

Sorry I meant to type front mufflers.. Confusion comes from my car.
I have exhaust manifolds,..down pipes.. large ( 2 in / 2 out) 24 inch muffler in center of car...(2 factory front mufflers (before the cage) and 2 factory rearmufflers at the back

Muffling IC engine exhaust has always been a science, an art, voodoo, personal choice or any combination of these.

I've messed with and listened to so many !!! I started with my T four banger. Cut off the muffler, still very "chuffy". Tapped into the front portion of the exhaust manifold. Two straight pipes all the way back.
Not bad at all!!! A baffle splitting off the front two from therear two might've been better.

A few years later, I sold a core V* to a kd with a nice A coupe. His 4 split sounded so nice?

One of my favorites was my 56 ****** 4x4 pickup lumped with a 283
SBC. It came with a single exhaust. Gotta go. Fashioned a true dual system with two 17" Mitchell glass packs. No X or H balance connector. An old school set of pipes. Very nice. Not raucous at all, just that V8 purrrr.

Never did get why Sir Lyons' guys plumbed in two mufflers and two resonators for the 4.2? Two reasonably quiet pipes I guess.

I think either set can sound work well. Just as Darren's 4.2 is now piped!!!

But, if I was still messing with the 4.2 in my car, I would emulate the pies in the E types.

Yeah, there is a Porsche up the road. Odd sounds from the exhaust??
No bite, kinda tractor like !!!

So much more to say so little time....

You'll need a better mic for complex sound like that, Darren, and probably better speakers than most phones (and computers) are equipped with.

Time to play?

Now, I have two ancient Sony Cameras. the recording media on each is the old little 3 x 3 or so "floppy, actually not floppy at all!!!

This machine has a drive for them !! The other XP machine does not! But, it is the other that has the Harmon Kardon amp and speakers. Even to my much "challenged: ears, it sounds really nice.

This machine has speakers and the monitor has 'em. Can't get a "peep" out of either...

Oh, one of the SONY's has movie and sound. Not tried it yet. I thought they were the same. Not so. A brief look on line found that one sold for $699.00 in it's day. Mine was 8 bucks t the thrift store....
but, the other cost me 23, but included a charger. So, what do I have for 31 bucks? Not too bad, I think...

I tried hooking up to main computer that is my movie server, its hdmi into amp with 7.1, but it still sounded awful, hoping the real camera has a better mic
