While I await the arrival of our manual hoping this forum can help me identify a few things on the car. There’s a lever on the left drivers side under the panel that fees like when you push it it goes into four different positions. The second thing is the button looking thing on the floor by the brake.
thank you in advance. Learning a ton from this group!!
Excuse me for smiling. As our world changes, society forgets things. When I was young every American car had the dimmer switch on the floor. Of course, most of my generation have no idea how to use Twitter either. Glad you are going to take care of your father's car, Lexi. The folks on the Forum are here help.
Thank you. Glad you’re smiling! When my grandfather gave it to my dad I called dibs immediately. So with both of them gone and me knowing nothing about cars figured I could take up a new hobby and finish my dad’s work to get it back to beautiful.
The large black lever that is slightly curved and pointing down is the hood release as Elinor said. The gizmo beside it with a white cylinder, no idea. But as stated above, that is where the fresh air vent pull knob is located. The air enters through the little mesh grills over the outer headlights. You can test the vent by having someone hold a leaf blower on those vents over the headlights and then feel the air coming in on the outer side of the footwells.
Be sure to check out the YouTube channel Living with a classic he has tons of easy to follow tutorials on your car. Be sure to watch the one on replacing the rubber hoses on the fuel rail on top of the engine. The rubber gets old and brittle and if it gets a leak it sprays gas. Not a good thing.
Here is the arrangement on my car. The fresh air knob is aligned horizontally. On XJ6 with strombergs when you pull the choke lever it pulls twin cables, one for each carb and also illuminates the dash light which we identified in you other thread post. The floor button is dip switch or high beams.
