Hi Jose -

Replaced in tank fine mesh filters above the big drain plug.

Added pre-filters on low pressure feed lines from tank to switchover valve.

Of course replaced the big guy in the trunk

And PO had another filter inline under the hood before the connection to fuel rail. I was wondering if this would affect fuel pressure at rail, and contemplated just putting in a brass connector to join the two rubber hoses... but I had the new filter and trying to redo that whole line from the under body line to fuel rail with a single rubber hose was too much without a lift or car on stands.

The tanks were rusty... well, more rust dust since they are new from a couple years ago. But I plan to keep them topped off to prevent further rust and add some Stabil in each tank. Also anyone know if it is OK to mix gas, Stabil and fuel injector cleaner all at once?

I am so excite that I can now "move her" so I can get her out and wash, wax, polish her and frickin' SEE in the sunlight. I tried several times pushing her out of her dark, dank shed, but the hernia told me right away, no way !!

ok I see now.

my '84 has the 3 that came from the factory, the big Bosch one and the two mesh tank filters. Never had any problem filtering gasoline. Maybe I should remove and clean the two mesh filters, have never done it.

My mesh filters were compromised in that the mesh had separated from the plastic frame, hence pretty useless

But my tanks were apparently new a few years back and if the shop properly replaced these filters... it doesn’t say much about their quality

all twin-tank Jaguar since 1960 have those mesh filters / drain plugs.

the first twin-tank Jag was the MK-X, then the S type, then the 420, then the 420-G, then the XJ-6./12 all the way to the Series 3 V12 from 1987 thru 1992.

the picture below shows one from my 1965 S type. They even use the same identical gaskets.

My replacement tanks do not have these removable filters on the drain plug.
Instead they have a permanent mesh filter installed inside the tank and a much smaller drain plug in the same spot.

I was quite disappointed whenever they came in the post in I discovered this.

well yes that is very dissapointing. I wonder why they are manufactured like that. Shows you the trouble that Jaguar went through with the original tanks, over-designed as opposed to under-designed.

I just cut the electronic changeover valve out of the system and T'd the two fuel tank lines together to make one feed.

Added a fuel shutoff valve before the T for each line, attached to the fuel shut off valves are washable fuel filters.

I also added new fittings to my new fuel tanks and ran a hose between the two so that they would be able to equalize the fuel between them. ( In case you wanted to just fill up one side at a gas station and let it bleed into the other tank naturally. It can also do this through the T fitting, but I wanted to make sure it could happen quicker. )
