Hi . I have a 1985 XJ12 VDP and every place I look to decode my vin it says I have a 4.0 L twin canister engine. Heres the vin SAJBN1049FC411134 . Shouldnt the seventh digit be an 8 for a J12 ?
Thanks for any help .

It sounds like you have a non-USA car.
Are you using the VIN that's on the firewall...visible with the hood open, right about where the diagonal fender braces come together? Or are you using a VIN that's on a door tag and/or windshield pillar?
Most VIN decoders are set up to North American convention so the VIN on the firewall, if that's what you're using, wouldn't work.
Cheers
