Default New Rims

Hi: I played around with the wheels since I had to remove them to take off the chrome fender finishers. PM if you want them. I have decided to forgo the wire wheels. They are in very good nick (?) as they say in England. I'm putting these on for the warm weather.

PM me if anyone can use these. I can send you more pics.

I think you made the right choice to ditch the wires.
From California, the fender lips don't look like any rust at all! That's Great!

Bottom rear edge of the wing, (=fender USA), looks as if it has some rusting; not unusual, of course. There is a rear wing closing panel there that is easily removeable to check the wing out. It also allows access to the rear lower wing bolts.

I’m going to replace my Dayton wires with chromed Kent alloys. Does anyone know how much the wire wheels are worth? I only saw one ad on eBay. Mine are pretty immaculate.

Hey, I'm trying to sell my wire wheels. Do your own posting....just kidding. With yours being "pretty Immaculate", I would venture an estimate in range of $400-500 per wheel. Mine a really nice but not in your league from the sound of it. Good luck.

I would say that’s a bit high, I recently put spokes on mine, took me a while to find them but I finally got 5 wheels for 550 dollars shipped!!! Out of the 5 one had a big curb ding in it so it’s
the spare! Other than that they too are immaculate!!
As gorgeous as they are, they are a pain to keep clean!!!!!

Beautiful car! You got a great deal on those wheels. It sounds like prices are all over the place.

I like mine too but they are a pain to clean. I’ve heard the car drives better with stock wheels rather than wires. Have you noticed a difference?

If the car handles differently on your wires vs alloy wheels than that means your wire wheels are in need of service. I had mine rebuilt at the Dayton factory and they handle exactly like my other XJ6 series III that runs on alloy.

Wire wheels need to be maintained. The spokes can work loose, Mine had hairline cracks on the rims, where the spokes meet the hub can get rusty and leak. But if they are checked and/or refurbished by qualified experts they are a thing of beauty.

To clean them, spray with wheel cleaner (lots to choose from at your local parts store). Then blast them with a stream of water from the garden hose, then blow dry them with an electric leaf blower. Takes about 10 minutes and they look great.

I haven’t noticed any difference in handling other than car accelerates a hell of a lot faster than it used, but that could be the lt1!

Doubtless that's it, Darren.
We All know how much faster a car is with new paint, why not with new wheels??

I’ve been afraid of using wheel cleaner because I read some cleaners can damage them. Is there a brand you recommend?

Just wanted to say I like your choice--looks sporty with the silver paint.

Thank you Mkii250. Like many add-ons, it's very subjective. Obviously I'm not stock guy. I am just trying to enhance the sporty essence of the old girl. Ren
