Yes, two. A sort of dome-shaper oil pressure sender (white/brown wire) for the gauge and a smaller oil pressure switch (black/brown wire) for the warning light.
Neither would cause a fuel injection problem....no relationship or tie-in at all.
Not sure what the mystery wire is, sorry.
Haynes manuals are confusing. Get the proper Jaguar manual and "S57" wiring guide. You can get 'em on CD or paper.
Cheers

Maybe this forum should offer copies of the Series 3 Jaguar Factory Manuals here, new XJ owners need them bad, and after all they are hard to find, it's hit or miss. What do you think? What do the Moderators think? Copyright issues? Lawsuits?

I have a copy of the Series II and Series III workshop manuals published by British Leyland. Unfortunately, someone I know borrowed the electrical section with all of the schematics without my knowledge. I have spoken to him but he is very economical with the truth. I have actually banned this guy from coming to my house cause if he would take part my manual without my permission, I don't know what else he has taken. I would love to scan the manuals and put it on the forum, but it is costly to scan over 1500 pages. Then again no electrical sections.

I have the original (dated 1983) Elektrical Skematic "poster" that came with my 1984 XJ, covering the XJ-6, XJ-12, and XJ-S, but you'd need a huge flatbed scanner to get it all in one pass. But I can make copies at Kinko's, get them laminated, etc.
I just think that people throw their money out the window when they buy a Haynes or Chilton "Manual". The only Shop Manual worth the money is the Jaguar Factory Shop / Service Manual. They always comment here that "I can't find what I need in my Haynes Manual", well of course you can't, those things are comic books.
I also have a movie introducing the Jaguar Sovereign, (XJ-40), very interesting.
Also have a 1965 movie titled "Building A Legend", about the Jaguar Factory building the MK-2, from engine block casting to testing the finished car. best 45 minutes of movie you'll ever see.
but because of copyright questions, I don't plan to copy them. Won't even dare to put them on YouTube.

Not quite sure if I understand what you're saying.
The sender for the gauge is on or near the oil filter adapter. The switch for the oil light is forward of the oil fiter.
I haven't been under a Ser III for some time. My poor memory prevents anything more specific, sorry. Jose will give more exact details
Cheers

Missing Oil sender
Thanks for all the input but I cannot find sender for gauge .. I looked on top of oil filter,,, my jag has two hoses going and coming to bottom of radiator also a small metal line that goes to back of cams. The gauge sender I got has different threads than the other . I'm starting to think it requires A two tab sender

oil sender
OK solved my problem yes the sender for guage is near oil filter slightly to front .. on my jag there are two hoses coming from top of this adapter block going forward of radiator to an oil cooler .. any body expeince this b-4??? and in the hole for sender is a metal tube that goes to rear of cams and obviously oils them . I went to LOWES of all places and got a brass 't' and some nipples etc and put in the dummy lite port FYI the lite sender is 1/8 iron pipe thread and the guage is 1/4 IP and lowes has a good selection of fittings . now both work !!! THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP- GUYS

Experienced the existance of an oil cooler? Yes:-)
Early Ser IIIs didn't have an oil cooler but, instead, two aux electric cooling fans. Later cars had the oil cooler and only one cooling fan. Can't remember the breakpoint....1982 or so?

Good that you sorted it all out !
I wish my memory was better so I could more accurately visualize the layout of all this.
The oil flter adapter was different dependant on with/without the oil cooler and the exact location of the oil gauge sender may have varied a bit between the two.....although in either case I'd still expect it to somehow be connected to the adapter.
I "suspect" ...ha ha....that somehow your car has a mix-n-match of parts and something went missing in the translation, so to speak. I dunno....just speculating.
Cheers
