Pop from engine car is dead

Pop from engine car is dead
97 XJ6: accelerating in 1st gear, hear a POP, engine dies, and tranny light comes on. Will not start. Sounds like it wants to start but will not. No smoke. everything under the hood looks "normal" HELP!!

X300's are not my forte, but I see you have no response to this so here are my thoughts:
On an XJ-6 check the airflow side and all induction connections.
If yours was an '87 instead of a '97 it would be almost a certainty it would be an air connection before the airflow meter. Just push it back on and tighten the hose clamp and off you go. I would look for a similar situation on yours.
Be curious to know if this works, I have considered going "modern" lately.
