There's a cute joke question that I like. Aliens come down from space and they land and meet You. They present you with a gift that they claim will create world peace. What do you do?
1. Give it to the President of the USA
2. Give it to the Secretary General of the UN
3. Open it and see what's inside
I don't know if anyone else cares, but I like this sort of thing. I had the 2PR power resistor pack out of my Series 3 today to check it. This is what it looks like, inside and out.
The plates come off using a 3/16-inch nut driver.
What looks like crud on the wires is some foam padding that was glued on the inside of the plates.
The socket underneath has ten pins. If you hold the unit with the front (label) facing up, Pin #1 is the upper left hand corner, Pin #2 is lower left, and so forth until Pin #10 at the lower right. The socket key is located between pins 1 and 3 and 2 and 4.
Odd numbered pins on the top row do not connect to the even numbered pins on the bottom row.
My measurements: Any pin combination not involving Pins 9 or 10 measured about 12.8 ohms. Any pin combination involving 9 or 10 measured about 6.5 ohms. This is on my Harbor Freight DMM, so don't expect great accuracy.
