Problem!

Got a problem with my 1984 xj6

I turn the key to the starting position and it makes a fast clicking noise but doesn't crank.
What could it be?

1) a dead battery,

2) or a bad starter Solenoid,

3) or a bad Starter

Agree, Jose. Also, battery cables for corrosion and tightness, at both ends. Posts on each side of the firewall for corrosion, and grounds. Cleaning connections will do wonders for these cars.
