the 4.2 is standard engine in all US Jaguar since 1968.
The 1977 is a Series 2 XJ-6. But Fuel Injection in a 1977? I think in those years they were carburetted. Maybe it was modernized but I doubt anyone would go through that trouble.
The Sovereign model is not a very common Jaguar, not rare, but not common. It is more of a "corporate" / "embassy" type of car.
The 3 models are: The Base/Standard model XJ-6, the Vanden Plas XJ-6, and the Sovereign XJ-6. Same car, different interior appointments and color selections.
Can you post pictures of the car and engine compartment?
Thanks.
