Question Rear hub bearings 1985/12

Prepping to rebuild the rear suspension unit, so gathering up the required parts.

Does anyone have the part numbers for the inner and outer tapered bearings and their races? Not the Jaguar part numbers, but the generic ie. Timken numbers etched into the actual bearings/races. I understand that bearing such as these all carry the same numbers, regardless of the actual manufacturer. I'm also looking for similar info for the inner and outer needle bearings for the lower wishbone (fulcrum) arms. I plan to pick these up from my local bearing supply shop. Ian

I honestly think you will do better to buy an entire kit from a specialist (eg Manners) as they have all the seals, thrust washers, tubes and bearings you will surely need as well

For the hub (wheel) bearing the numbers are:
Inner: 18520/18590
Outer: 18620/18690

As a note, when I rebuilt a differential a year ago I bought Timkin brand bearings, made in USA and they were out of tolerance, I could not press them onto the carrier hub. I then bought a set of Koyo bearings, 3 parts made in China and one part made in Japan and they fit perfectly, just as the original Made in England Timkins did. So don't necessarily shop for new Timkin bearings only thinking they will be the best for the job.

I don't have a note of the fulcrum shaft and wishbone bearing numbers. Can you take apart your old ones to read the numbers off them?

These were the items I was referring to about buying an entire kit as there are other parts you will need besides the bearings, such as shims and spacers.
This about setting up the hub endfloat, in case it helps

Thanks Greg. I thought about a kit, but unless my removed parts are no longer usable, then all the seal spacers, distance tubes and standard common shims should be fine. Assuming all's well, then its a case of new bearings and seals and whatever shims for final adjustment is all I should need. I cannot purchase the final adjustment shims until I install bearings/spacers/seals etc anyway. I do not see a wide selection of possible shims in the kits I've looked at. Replacement bearings and seals should be to proper spec, so why buy a "Kit"? But I understand where you are coming from. Have yet to pull the trigger. Ian

FWIW, my Manners kit came with plenty of the two types of shim needed; but no harm in waiting to see what's what when it comes apart. Good luck!

It's quite likely the existing spacers will put you back in the correct ballpark with new bearings, take pics and keep up with what spacers were where and I'd bet measurements would dictate to put them back as they were. Somewhere I made a post going through this job the last time I did it with bearing numbers etc... but I can't find it, could be on the other forum. I think new bearings and new 1pc seals should do it.
