I'm not aware of any Series I-II-III car being factory fitted with anything except 15x6 wheels. The steel wheels, the Kent alloy, the Ogle Pepperpot alloy....all 15x6.
Cheers

Lots of different XJ40 wheels. One or two have a fitment glitch where the wheel bearing dust cap protrudes into the center hole of the wheel and prevents the little plastic wheel emblem from fitting. Foggy memory as to specifics. Others will chime in
Ok, good to know. Let's assume for this discussion that the plastic cap is not near the top of the problem list. From what I've gathered, the 5x4.75 bolt pattern is the same, but I wanted to question the size of the center hole as I think this is how the wheel is centered. Surely Jaguar wouldn't have cavalierly messed with that at model change???!
I only continue hammering at this wheel thing because I have seen factory restored wheels online for '88-'94 Jaguars that are 15x7's.

Dave I have xj40 wheels on my 86. The centers are good but as Doug said, the plastic hub caps lack a couple mm depth to fit back on the fronts, as the grease cap protrudes through. Maybe find a style that doesn't use the flat plastic hubcap? Also get the corresponding lugnuts or they could cost as much as the wheels.

Thanks for confirmation on the fit and tip about the lug-nuts, I would not have thought of that. I see what you and Doug mean with the plastic center cap.
I see what you mean about the dust cap on the front hub, are there other styles of lug covers that would not create that problem? I see the second picture has a dust cap cover, is that a standard XJ40 piece? As far as the wheel goes, that's a keeper to me.
Dave, I use XJ40 "Teardrop" wheels in my '84 with 225/60/15 fat tires. Never liked the "Kent" wheels with the skinny tires.
The "Teardrop" wheels are more classic to me, probably because I love the 1930's wheels in American and European cars.
Elinor also has "Teardrop" wheels in her XJ, ( CHROMED !! ), she also used spacers at the front to clear the hubcaps. She calls the spacers "concentric".
I also found chromed "Moon" hubcaps in Amazon from a store in California, exactly the 1930's look I wanted. Set of 4 chromed XJ40 "Moon" hubcaps for $35.
It was about $35.00 cheaper a few weeks ago ! Anyhow, I am pleased to report that it fit perfectly. Installation took maybe 45 minutes; one section of pipe needed very slight trimming; 2 minutes. the most time consuming part was separating the old pipes from the mufflers. The new kit includes the long pipe to the forward converter and the two pipes going to the mufflers, these latter being clamped rather than welded. I can recommend it to anyone needing a low cost, easy replacement.
Elsewhere under the car....
I installed the 3.31 limited slip diff from my old car and the Boge shocks and rear anti-roll bar as well:
To correct the speedometer reading I used the same ratio adapter as I had on my old car....
......and had this company make up a cable to connect the ratio adapter to the speedo transducer
