Recovering dash pads?

Fill the cracks and cover with thin foam
I have had two pads recovered. The shop first used filler on the cracks after sanding them down flat...then put thin upholstery foam over the whole
thing.
Then vinyl or leather was used for the finished product. Buy the new rubber ends if you want a "deluxe" product...hard to get installed but looks much
better.
Use a solar window cover afterwards to protect the new pad this time....

Thanks for the information, that really answers all my questions. When I get a chance to try this I'm going to try filling the cracks then recovering the pad with vinyl. The XJ6 pad is a simple enough shape the I should be able to get it to form ok. If not it could be taken back off and repiared with the procedure shown in the link.
