Removing bad gas from tank
I know it is a dangerous task all around, but I need to get bad gas out of my '86 tanks. I could unscrew the drain and watch it dribble all over the place and hope I catch it all. But, I currently have the incoming fuel line under the hood disconnected from the rail. If I put this hose into a large empty fuel container and ran the pump... any reason why it would not just pump the fuel from the tank into the container?
Thanks - Randy

I'm in the middle of cleaning my fuel system out at the moment I removed the tank drain plugs and alot of rust dust and muck spewed out glad I got most of it out. There are filters on top of the brass drain plugs that needed cleaning also.
Randy, If your are dealing with rotten fuel, I'd be a bit concerned with sending any possible crud through the pump. I suppose a sacrificial filter between the tank and pump would help. Ian
When I drained my tanks, I simply used a hose on the tank fitting in the trunk and snaked it out the floor rink vent and put end of hose in gas cans, no muss no fuss
gravity does the job, and there’s no rush of fuel going everywhere!

Thanks for great reply options. Tanks are going to be replaced along with valves and pump, so not too worried about crud. Do have a pre filter in front of tank.
But now it is going to rain for a week and I want to roll car outside for any of this fuel work. Will report back soon
