Salisbury or Dana Diff?
Going by my book I have Salisbury diff, Vin 1L30046BW. Went to parts store, they think I would have a Dana diff(going by the "Hexico" pinion seal part number I gave them), Can anyone tell from the pics.
The question usually comes up relative only to mid-80s XJSs. In those cases the mystery is simply solved: Dana manufactured diffs don't have a drain plug; Salisbury diffs do have a drain plug.
AFAIK your Ser I would not have anything but a Salisbury, and from the pics I see that you do have a drain plug.
However....
The situation gets bit confusing as even the Salisbury made diffs are a kissin' cousin to the widely used 'Dana 44' differential. If any of the parts, including seals, look 'Dana-ish' and/or are cataloged for use in Dana differentials, it wouldn't be surprising.
Cheers

Definately has a drain plug, and a Jaguar mechanic(40+ years experience) said it was a salisbury, Just the girl at the parts store put doubt in my mind. But in saying that she has been there quite a few years and has always been right before.
I've been using the same shop for 16 years and she has been there at least half of that.
Update, I should Know about the drain plug thing as my Jeep has 2 Dana diffs and no drain plugs major PITA

If you have a four wheel drive oriented shop in your vicinity, they can probably make a
positive ID.
At one time, Spicer was a source for very similar differentials in domestic.
So, indeed, the geneaology is probably intertwined.
Your project is looking great.
Parts for old critters, always fun. I started a quest for a pair of spindle nuts for the VW semi derelict dune buggy in my drive. LH metric!!! I can only guess that it was made on a pan of early 60's vintage!! And, if I need a die to chase the spindle threads, that oughta be more fun!!!
The Jaguar was our transportation of choice yesterday. Coco likes riding in it. Not so much in the Jeep. I think he relates the latter to a dog catcher truck. Doesn't like getting in, but once in is OK.

AFIK and based on my experience, the Dana seal will not work. You need part number CBC006923. From my recollection when I tried this...The Dana seal will physically fit but had the Lip in wrong place so it wont seal properly on the pinion shaft.

I need to identify diff because bearings are burnt and oil seals melted from the fire.
