Default Seatbelt Logic Unit

1985 XJ6 US

I've been experiencing problems with the seat belt warning buzzer and light. Initially the light would not turn off. Then the buzzer would continue to buzz after the car was shut off. Turning the key until the starter motor kicked in would stop the buzzer. Now the buzzer is on until the fuse is pulled.

My questions are these.
Is this a common problem in XJ6s and is there a known fix.

What if I pulled the fuse and happily drive without the seatbelt logic unit? Is there a possible problem with another system on the car being dependent on the logic unit. I really can't tell from the service manual.

thanks

I have to say I can't see any problem in decommissioning the seat belt warning unit except from a legal point of view. The electronics on these cars, (I assume it is an XJ6 Series 3 with the 4.2 litre XK engine) consists solely of the analogue-type ECU; there is nothing else.

However I am ready for somebody to tell me I'm wrong. (I had a 1980 same model in the UK)

Thanks Frasher,

I've been reading the schematic and was about to come up with the same conclusion. I will know by the end of the week.

Removed the fuse. No buzzer, no problems
