Default Series 1 Project

Hey guys,

I bought a Series 1 Project and it was someone's half completed project. I am finishing the interior, which seems to be very difficult finding parts. I have a couple questions on opinions from others that have done these projects. I will list them below. The car seems to have a L98 swap into it and shifts rough. (Seller told me it was a LT1 but I think it's a L98)

1. Car currently has a fuel cell in the trunk where the spare tire should be. Should I just buy a replacement tank for the pass. side or should I buy a slim fuel cell to fit up where that space is behind the seat? I would like to be able to use the fuel door on the pass. side.

2. Since the car only has a L98 and shifts a little rough, I was wanting to do a manual conversion. Should I just add performance mods to this motor or do an LS swap and manual conversion?

3. Due to the light wieght engine, the front sits high, is there an easy way to lower the front suspension?

The car is British Racing Green over Beige and It will end up being repainted eventually but I want to keep the color combo.

I have no answers to your questions, but always follow series 1 projects with great interest.

Where is distributor on engine? If in front, under a water pump with no pulley, then lt1, if in back and water pump is a normal belt driven unit then l98.
if its the lt1 and from 94 or later the transmission shifts are controlled by the pcm.
somone had swapped a later tune into my pcm and it screwed up the transmission.
Find out exactly what you have before thinking about swapping parts
l98 should have a 700r4, 93 lt1 will have 4l60, and 94 up lt1 will have 4l60e, 4l60 and 700 ate basically the same and controlled by a cable to throttle body.
4l60e has a wiring harness attached and is all done by the computer.

Good luck!

Pictures of your engine or more information is needed to properly advise you of the needed fixes. You should also show us the fuel cell installation...most can have a hose
added to reach a fuel door.

I lowered my S1 by adding 1/2 inch spacers to the front spring pans and longer Grade 8 bolts... it is now the "correct" height with my lighter weight engine and trans.

In that case it is definitely a L98, I was also seeing 5.3 and 6.0's are fairly cheap and have decent power as well.

I can take some photos later when I get home. The current fuel cell setup is a joke and is going to be redone, it is a larger cell held in by ratchet straps. I saw someone on here put one where the spare tire goes and it looked great.

Very nice car and tidy, til the boot picture.

1. Measure the spare well. google fuel cells and find a vendor with pictures and dimensions.

2. Get a pair of original Jaguar side saddle tanks. New or used. depedant on budget, of course.
Try David Boger at everydayxj for good used or possibly NOS. Good guy. posts ere from time to time.
His necrophy of a car was very informative.

It is an L98, for ure. Nce installation.

T5 a definite possibility...
