Series 2 bumpers on a series 3
#2
Provided that you have the UK type bumpers down there, and not the weird/ugly US type, I would have thought the worst part of the job would be mounting/wiring the series 2 sidelight indicator units.

Can you post pictures of the UK and the US styles please? I don't know the difference and now I'm curious.

The Xj6 is the Quintessential Classic Jaguar in the minds of The Public. Everyone who sees it knows Instantly and Instinctively, THAT is a JAGUAR!!
As a bonus, yours is Black!! My Favorite!!
Nice car, BTW, Including the bumpers!!

I wasn't knocking anybody`s car, its being from the UK the North American spec jags have some different parts fitted.
I suppose it is what you get used to seeing, VDP`s with the scalloped grill badged as Jaguars, not Daimlers, the 4 small headlamps, as opposed to the outers being 7inch and the federal bumpers which we only got on the series 3, and they were smaller than the US ones, and had rear fog lamps built into them.
We never got the leaper on our jags after 1968 when the series 1 XJ6 came out.
I understand the reasons for the changes, different countries, different laws. and that Mercedes has the rights to the Daimler name in the US.
You wouldn't know if you should laugh or cry if you saw what they did to the late 70`s Jeep Cherokee to make it right hand drive and to comply with our lighting laws.
The steering column was cut off on the inside of the fire wall, a cog welded onto both ends with a chain running behind the dash.
The original tail and front parking light lenses were painted matte black and cheap generic trailer lights were screwed to them!

Whew, that is one beautiful Jaguar. Makes mine look a bit scruffy.
I've grown to like or at least tolerate the big rubber on the front and rear. Gives meaning to the word "bumpers". At time found on all cars of a spring steel. Able to give and take a bump!!! Mine has taken a couple of bumps from behind with no damage. Other critters would have suffered some cracked plastic. including my Jeep!
I don't knw if the clean chrome bumpers of UK cars can take a bump or are largely ornamental, with a larger back bar to take the impact.
Side bar: Elinor, you might be pleased to know of two assembly bills and a senate bill here in CA having to do with the cutoff time for SMOG inspections. Early 80's in the mix!!! Might you and I and others shed this burden??? Seems possible.
Just swapped to infinity triple play. So far so good, I think after some hurdles. Phone seems much clearer. Modem is noisy. Hmm, I think it quieted down!!
Super hot, so out in AM and hibernate in PM.

I know. but, raise the issue with your Assembly person and Senator.
I've gotten new ones that seem closer to reasonable than some of the past ones. Email on the web pages or even call the local office.
I put on my best "voice of reason".
Got help in another issue. Impasse with a state Gov't dept. resolved!!!
