Default Series 3 1979 DD6 rear locking solenoid issue

Hi all,
I came across an issue that has me puzzled.
One of the rear doors on the car will lock via central locking but not unlock. I pulled the door trim off and lubricated everything, but still no good.
It seems the solenoid works to lock but doesn't do anything to unlock - no movement whatsoever.
Anyone have suggestions as to what would cause this? I assume it's a dodgy solenoid but i would have thought that would affect both functions.
Thanks in advance.
Roger

Since only one door is giving a problem we can assume that the lock-unlock signals from upstream are fundamentally OK.....but perhaps not reaching the last branch that goes to the door in question. If you have a 12v test light or meter you could check for voltage going to the solenoid on the orange/red "unlock" wire.

That said, my gut feeling is that you have a partially dead solenoid, as you suspect.

Cheers
DD

Thanks Doug,
Looks like you're spot on. Tested The wires with a light and I've got a signal to both wires. I'll remove the solenoid and see if it can be pulled apart to fix. Failing that it's new solenoid time.
Thanks again mate.

Default Fixed!!!

Just in case anyone is interested...
I pulled the solenoid out of the door with a view to seeing if it was repairable.
The unit is sealed via crimping at each end, however I was able to uncrimp it and pull it apart.
There are two wire coils - one for the lock and one for the unlock circuit with both coils soldered to a contact in the middle.
One of the contact points had broken so a quick soldering job and it was as good as new.

Easy fix - just a little fiddly.
