Default Series II wiring questions

I've started the teardown of my XJ and I hit a minor snag. Does anyone know how to undo the headlight plug section of the wiring loom so I can pull the rest through the wing? There must be a connector someplace but I don't see it.
Secondly, is there a company that reproduces the XJ wiring harnesses? I did buy one new years ago but I'd like to replace all of the engine bay harnesses.

Any help would be great.

Hmm, I should know, as I took all the front looms out when doing a mini-rebuild in the early 90s, but it was a long time ago ! I have a feeling the connector is buried in the wing duct; you pull off the rubber plug and it's behind that. Makes the connector less prone to muck getting on it.

Ill be putting all new wiring in the S.III race car.

Going to be using a keep it clean generic wiring kit.

I don't know of anybody that offers a plug & play wiring harness for XJ's

Are you still running emissions & all accessories?

Default consider this

Have you unscrewed he ground? The ground on the loom is looped in a J shape and is bolted to the shock tower brace. It think its a 5/16 nut and bolts with a lock washer. Then the loom makes is way back inside the wing brace to a multi pin plug on the firewall wihch is partially obscured by the brake servo. I've removed the loom a few times and I'd say it's generally easy to remove the 2nd time you do it. Some times the wiring for the side marker lamp hangs up too.

As for an upgrade or replacement...I'd recommend a loom and fuse block from a series 3. In the 80's the wire quality got much better and the fuse block moved to the dry area on the fender instead of on top of the radiator. Whoever decided to put two fuse blocks on top of the rad in front of the grill and exposed to all sorts of heat cycles and moisture is a total dunce. Perhaps you can find a series 3 in your local recycling yard. I did this upgrade on my series 2, no more headlight problems and the wire color coding was the same...it's basically a plug in upgrade.

ICS, that's a great idea. It figures that an SIII harness would be the same. My car is an Australian spec car so there are no side marker lights and plug no. 3 is behind my battery :-). No accessories. Everything is unplugged except the headlight plug and turn signal which are too big to fit through the wire sized hole inside the fenderwell. All of the other wiring has been poked through the grommet in the wing. If thereis a connector inside the wing that's pretty dumb... how would the bloke at the factory install it?
Think..think...think...
